Age Divisions

Division Age Summary
TBall 4-6

Tee Ball serves as an introduction to Little League® for players aged 4 to 6. It emphasizes fun, fitness, and fundamental skills while nurturing a child's passion for baseball.

In Tee Ball, volunteer coaches receive support to create an enjoyable learning environment. Parents and guardians play a crucial role in the program's success, setting the foundation for continued participation in Little League.

Tee Ball players use specialized equipment designed for their age group. Typically, CRLL's Tee Ball program runs an extended spring season with one practice per week for the first 5-6 weeks, followed by one game per week for the remaining 5-6 weeks.

We strongly encourage parents to become involved in this entry-level division. After completing a Little League volunteer application and passing a required national background check, parents can participate in practices and potentially take on roles such as coaches, managers, umpires, local league board members, and other volunteer positions within the league.

Rookie Ball 7-8

The Rookie Ball (previously Coach Pitch) Division is for players aged 7 and 8 with limited baseball experience, often having played Tee Ball. This division builds on Tee Ball fundamentals and welcomes newcomers to the sport. Players continue to develop baseball, social, and leadership skills.

In this division, there are two options:

  1. Coaches pitch with a Safety 1 level baseball, with a maximum number of pitches per rules, and no player strikeouts.
  2. A mechanical pitching machine, set at a reasonable speed, pitches the Safety 1 level baseball, following the rules with no player strikeouts.

The Coach Pitch Division offers an extended spring season with one practice per week for the first 5-6 weeks and one game per week for the remaining 5-6 weeks. Further scheduling details can be found on our Spring Season page.

Minors 9-10

CRLL's Minor League Baseball program is for players aged 9 and 10, whether experienced or new to the sport. They learn pitching, catching, and advanced skills like base stealing, all while emphasizing fair play.

This division may be split into two tiers based on registration numbers: Canadians and Nationals, determined by player evaluations.

Both spring and summer seasons are offered, featuring 2 games (home and away) and one weekly practice during a 6-week season. The summer season includes participation in an Ottawa-based league. Details are on our Spring Season and Summer Season pages.

Players can also compete for selection to the CRLL Minor All Star Aces Tournament team, which competes for the Little League Ontario Minor Championship. More details on our Summer Season and Aces Program pages.

Majors 11-12

The Little League Major Division is for players aged 11 and 12. It's where they put their skills to the test with faster pitches and longer hits. Players can explore various positions but often focus on their strengths.

In the spring season, we may have two tiers, Canadians and Nationals, based on player evaluations.

The Major Division is available in both spring and summer, with 2 games and one weekly practice over 6 weeks. Spring runs from May to June, and summer from July to August in an Ottawa-based league. For details, visit our Spring Season and Summer Season pages.

Major Division players can compete for a spot on the CRLL Major All Star Aces Tournament team, representing Canada in the Little League World Series. Outside the tournament, the All-Star Team participates in a competitive summer league with other Ottawa All-Star teams. Learn more on our Summer Season and Aces Program pages.

Juniors 13-14

The Junior League Baseball Division is for players aged 13 and 14, played on a standard 90-foot diamond with a 60 feet, 6 inches pitching distance, though some fields use a reduced pitching distance of 54 feet with 90-foot base paths.

Players experience leadoffs and pickoffs on a larger diamond, but the focus remains on skill development, fair play, and enjoyment during the spring season.

The Junior Division is offered in both spring and summer, featuring 2 games (home and away) and one weekly practice over 6 weeks. Spring runs from May to June, and summer from July to August, with games played in an Ottawa-based interlock league. For details, visit our Spring Season and Summer Season pages.

Junior Division players can also compete for a spot on the CRLL Junior All-Star Aces Tournament team, potentially representing Canada in the Junior League World Series. Outside the tournament, the All-Star Team participates in a competitive summer league with other Ottawa All-Star teams. Learn more on our Summer Season and Aces Program pages.

Seniors 15-16

The Senior League Baseball Division is for players aged 15 and 16, played on a standard 90-foot diamond with a pitching distance of 60 feet, 6 inches, and full-size bats. It represents the culmination of a player's Little League journey, with faster pitches, stronger hits, and more advanced play while still emphasizing skill development, fair play, and fun during the spring season.

Dependent on registrations, Senior League is available in both spring and summer. Each season includes 2 games (home and away) and one weekly practice over a 6-week period. Spring runs from May to June, while summer spans from July to August, with games played in an Ottawa-based interlock league featuring teams from across the area. For further details, please visit our Spring Season and Summer Season pages.

In the Senior League, players also have the opportunity to compete for a spot on the CRLL Senior All-Star Aces Tournament team, potentially representing Canada in the Senior League World Series. When not participating in the Annual Little League Tournament, the All-Star Team joins a competitive summer league with other Ottawa All-Star teams. Additional information is available on both the Summer Season page and the Aces Program page.
